The following information is provided to increase your knowledge and share my love and passion for wine. It also gives me a platform to speak from that your more common wine drinker can appreciate. I am not a professional, I have a good pallet, but certainly not a great one. I believe that most wine drinkers are around my level in what they can pick up in a wine. I will introduce to you my point rating system. It is based on the 100 point scale. This is a commonly used one, and the reason I believe it is used most commonly is that it is more accurate and flexible when reviewing a wine. 95-100 points - a legendary wine. One that I would recommend getting at all costs. The best of the best and as good as it gets. 90-94 points - a superb wine. Another one that I would recommend getting at all costs. Many outstanding values are found in this point range. 88-89 points - excellent wines that have plenty of good things going for them, but fall short of a wine that is worthy of a 90 or better. Many great values here. 85-87 points - good to very good wines that have more than enough going for them to be enjoyable. 80-84 points - above average to good wine. Every day drinking wine that is straight forward. 70-79 points - barely average to above average wines. Every day drinking wines that lack complexity and are not recommended for extended cellaring. 60-69 points - awful to below average wines that have very few positive things going for them. 59 points or below - a wine that has nothing going for it, something I would dump down the drain. There you have my review system. It is a good reliable system, and I believe the most accurate. I am lucky enough to live close to several California wine growing regions. At times I also go to tastings at wine retailers and wine bars. From those experiences, and in closing, I would like to say that some of you will not agree with some of the aromas or tastes I get from a wine. There is nothing wrong with that. Not all of our physical traits are the same, and that includes our taste buds and sense of smell. When it comes to what you pick up in the nose of a wine, or the taste of a wine, no one person is wrong. You can have 5 different big name wine critics review the exact same wine, and you will see completely different reviews.
